Sexy Pizza Loves Project VOYCE
Everyone loves pizza, right? How about Pizza from an eatery that not only serves pizza but serves its community unapologetically? The eatery we are talking about is the one and only Sexy Pizza. Sexy Pizza is a Denver-based eatery that has its roots in civic rights and social justice. Of course, over at Project VOYCE we just had to foster a relationship with them in our efforts to support our communities and battle injustices… and of course, maybe grab a couple of pies while we’re at it.
Sexy Pizza serves their community, and also their staff. Providing a competitive salary, benefits including 100% vision, dental, healthcare, and mental health. Not to mention a 401(k) plan and various others. Leading the way in better restaurant employee caretaking. Sexy Pizza opened its first store in Park Hill in 2008. Quickly gaining traction in the community, they opened their second location four years later, on Old South Pearl, and two more in the years that followed.
Our Fundraising Lead, Astrid Flores, grabbed a slice with Sexy Pizza to learn a little bit more about their passion for Project VOYCE
AF: How did you hear about the work that Project VOYCE does?
SP: We heard about PV from its founder, Candi CdeBaca. Sexy Pizza Co-owner Kayvan and Candi became friends five years ago as they collaborated on social justice projects important to north Denver communities. Helping give voice to that area’s underserved residents, the two have continued collaborating to this day. Being so close to Candi and her work, Kayvan saw firsthand the value of PV’s work with Denver area youth and had always tried to find ways to support the organization. Enter Sexy Pizza. “
AF: Why is the growth and survival of Project VOYCE important to you?
SP: Sexy Pizza has seen the impact Project VOYCE has made in its community and we want to be part of its survival and growth to continue their work. We wish to help them THRIVE, not just survive and want to provide financial and other ancillary resources to help make that happen.”
AF: How do Project VOYCE's mission and vision align with Sexy Pizza Values?
SP: We align ourselves with Project VOYCE’s mission and vision because they’re also providing benefits to our community’s most underserved populations. Sexy Pizza and PV both have a strong track record of civic engagement and helping develop leaders who can help push Denver in a more equitable and fair direction.”
Not only has Sexy Pizza done well for themselves, but they have also resulted in the birth of other businesses such as Birdy Magazine and Sex Pot Comedy.
